Recycling in Bloomsburg is mandatory for residents, businesses, schools, offices, multi-family housing units and organizers of special events. In 1977 Bloomsburg was the first community in Pennsylvania to provide curbside recyling of steel cans, aluminum cans, clear, brown, and green glass bottles, newspapers, and plastic bottles. The Bloomsburg Composting Site off Old Berwick Road provides a dropoff for compostable materials and supplies free compost and wood chips to the residents of Bloomsburg and Scott Township.
